RARN REVOX DX
Here is my take on the famous Oberheim DX.
A classic among the pantheon of 80’s drum sounds, it has featured on so many hits and non hits and has already been sampled to death.
But it has never been sampled like this before.
This is Rarn Revox DX
The first thing to note is the hits have all been carefully chosen from EPROMS added into an Original DX. The sounds you hear here are not ‘normal’ DX sounds.
It is possible to replace the sounds by opening the DX up physically changing the EPROMS. That’s exactly what was done here.
This combo of sounds is unique to the RARN Studio DX and extremely pleasing to the ear.
Next it has been multi-sampled in THREE distinct ways at multiple useful pitches.
1- CLASS A
Sampled through Shadow Hills preamp, into slight TREE Audio Optical Compressor ( very slight ) you can add more if you want there’s headroom, and finally through a NEVE 542.
2- REVOX 15ips
Sampled to new RTM LPR35 tape at 15ips for a HI-FI tape sound,
3- REVOX 7.5ips
Sampled to new RTM LPR35 tape at 7.5ips for a LO-FI tape sound.
ALL SAMPLED AT 16bit 44.1Khz so can be used in your old samplers.
n.b some of the lower tape pitched ones get pretty wild so watch your speakers.

1. EXTRACT THE .ALP FILE INTO YOUR ABLETON LIBRARY OR SAMPLE FOLDER
2. WITHIN ABLETON’S FILE BROWSER OPEN THE .alp FILE
3. THERE YOU HAVE THE DRUM RACK WITH ROUND ROBIN FUNCTIONALITY
